Architect in 'conflict of interest' row quits city role

Edinburgh Evening News

A leading architect has quit as adviser to Edinburgh City Council in a row over an alleged conflict of interest involving the role of the Capital's design champion Sir Terry Farrell. Allan Murray has resigned from the local authority's design advisory group in protest at Sir Terry's decision to continue touting for commercial work in Edinburgh. Mr Murray, who designed the award-winning Tun building in Holyrood Road, today claimed Sir Terry should not bid for any local projects to prevent any potential conflicts of interest. It follows controversy over the appointment of Sir Terry's firm to lead the multi-million-pound extension of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Morrison Street last month. City council leader Donald Anderson today also conceded he did not want to see Sir Terry involved "directly" in any commercial work while he held the post of design champion.
