Bring the outside in

The Scotsman

Walking up the front path to Scott Lee's house, "traditional" is the word that comes to mind. Ivy scrambles over stone walls, six empty glass milk bottles sit on the doorstep and an old bicycle is propped up in the front porch. This is where Newington and the Grange meet, one of the most desirable areas of Edinburgh, which has all the leafiness of the countryside, while being a stone's throw from all the amenities a city can offer. Walk through the doorway of this Victorian villa and the period cornice and staircase continue the grand theme. But where you might expect to find a certain nostalgic gloominess, instead the light streams in.
