Film Festival sets out to premiere £20m home in heart of city

The Scotsman

Edinburgh's International Film Festival could have a £20 million new landmark home in the city centre. Plans for a stunning circular four-storey complex, featuring five cinemas and a restaurant in front of the Sheraton Grand hotel on Festival Square have been drawn up by a leading city architect, Richard Murphy. The building, which will cover up to half the publicly-owned square, will provide the annual festival with a much-needed permanent base and form a new home for the Edinburgh Filmhouse cinema. The plans would see the current Filmhouse sold once the proposed new building has been completed. A café-bar, film shop and exhibition space dedicated to Edinburgh and the film industry is planned for the ground floor.
