Galleries 'prove fiasco at Holyrood avoidable'

Edinburgh Evening News

The new underground link between the city's two flagship art galleries was today hailed as proof the Holyrood parliament fiasco was not inevitable. The same contracting arrangements which have been blamed for many of the problems with the parliament were used for the link between the National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy at The Mound. But while the parliament ended up costing eight times the quoted price and three years late, the Playfair project at the galleries was completed within its budget and ahead of schedule. Now architectural expert Peter Wilson claims the success of the new Weston Link shows the Holyrood project could have been made to work.
