Campaigners against a controversial flats development on a historic "gateway" to Edinburgh city centre are celebrating after Scottish ministers threw out the scheme. Developers wanted to build more than 120 flats, as well as restaurants, cafes, shops and offices, on one of the few remaining brownfield gap sites in the Capital. But the plans sparked protests by residents, community groups and Scottish Secretary Alistair Darling amid concern over building heights and loss of privacy around the Tollcross site, occupied by car-dealer Arnold Clark.
