Festival highlights city's architecture

The Scotsman

Five years after the success of Glasgow 1999, the city is playing host to a major architectural festival which organisers hope will leave the public marvelling at the built environment around them. The Block festival, which runs for a week in September, will focus on both the old and the new, as the city looks toward two decades of continued regeneration. Highlights include two open-air cinema screens on the site of the old Rottenrow maternity hospital and at the Hidden Gardens at the Tramway. Other events include themed tours, guided walks, river excursions and a major urban regeneration conference, drawing delegates from across the world. The festival was launched yesterday at The Lighthouse - Scotland's Centre For Architecture, Design and the City.
