However, there are some things in the enclave of the Gryffe Valley that to many remain priceless. Nestled away in this Renfrewshire beauty spot is an important curiosity of Scottish architecture – Auchenbothie Lodge. One of only six private houses in Scotland designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, it has been put up for sale. The whitewashed cottage, with its pyramid-shaped roof, is unlike anything imagined by the art nouveau master, and remains something of a well-kept secret in architectural circles.
