A home designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for £145,000

The Herald

As one of Scotland's most expensive and idyllic villages, Kilmacolm is home to its fair share of millionaires. However, there are some things in the enclave of the Gryffe Valley that to many remain priceless. Nestled away in this Renfrewshire beauty spot is an important curiosity of Scottish architecture – Auchenbothie Lodge. One of only six private houses in Scotland designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, it has been put up for sale. The whitewashed cottage, with its pyramid-shaped roof, is unlike anything imagined by the art nouveau master, and remains something of a well-kept secret in architectural circles.
