Owners claims ruined castle threatened by house plan

The Scotsman

The owners of a ruined Scottish castle say their plans to restore the landmark could be spoiled by moves to convert an adjacent building into a house. A proposal has been lodged to convert a derelict sawmill, 60 metres from Dunans Castle, into a home for an ecologist. But Charles and Sadie Dixon-Spain, who bought the Argyll castle for £230,000 last year, say that the house would affect the historical value of the B-listed castle and nearby A-listed Thomas Telford bridge, as well as their plans to renovate the castle and create an outdoor theatre in the grounds. The couple, who sold their home in London to move to the Cowal peninsula, are objecting to the plan, which will be discussed shortly by Argyll and Bute Council.
