Gillespie, Kidd & Coia's grade-A listed Cardross seminary has stood derelict since 1980 and is now a burned-out skeleton. The new scheme will not restore the building to its former glory, but will include selling off part of the 12ha estate complete with planning permission for 28 new homes, designed by Glasgow-based practice ARM Architects, for a walled garden on the estate. The approximately £2.5 million raised by the sale will be used to stabilise the structure and create a maintenance dowry to arrest the decline of the modernist gem. The dowry will be looked after by the recently formed Cardross Regeneration Trust, which will now look for new funding and developers interested in saving the building.
