Edinburgh hailed as one of Europe's finest

The Scotsman

Edinburgh is a city that "displays the art of living the good life" according to a major new book about the architecture of Scotland's capital. More than a dozen academics, architects, conservationists and historians have contributed to Edinburgh: The Making and Remaking of a Capital City, which celebrates the successful building of a city more at home with the splendour of its natural surroundings than almost any other in Europe. And, the book's editors say, part of the reason for its success is that Edinburgh has become "more cosmopolitan and arguably less Scottish", welcoming "intellectual and artistic" outsiders.
