Family join fight to save 'boxy' home

Edinburgh Evening News

The long-time owners of a box-like 1960s house at the centre of a demolition battle today joined the fight to save the building. The Cattrell family, who bought the home from its celebrated creator, Alexander Esme Gordon, have hit out at plans to bulldoze what they see as an architectural gem. The current owners, architect Alistair White and his artist wife Julia, want to demolish the Merchiston home to make way for three new houses. But the Cattrells, who lived in the house for 14 years, said they had no idea about the Whites' plans when they sold the house.
