Demolition day for Greek Thomson's former offices

The Herald

The former offices of Alexander "Greek" Thomson will be demolished today despite last minute attempts to save the A-listed building. Glasgow City Council officials have deemed that the historic structure is unsafe and have instructed that the former workplace of Scotland's master of Victorian architecture be levelled. Historic Scotland made unprecedented moves to raise the cash to save the city-centre site at West Regent Street and Wellington Street, but admitted that little more could be done. "We have pulled out all the stops to try to put together a package to stop this hugely important building being lost to the nation. We have been trying to find a sustainable future for this building for years. When it goes, it will be a great loss."
