An ambitious scheme by Richard Murphy Architects to expand the A-listed Queen's Hall in Edinburgh has been shelved. The project had personal value for Murphy as he is a singer in the chorus of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, which regularly performs at the venue. Murphy also courted controversy two years ago when he said the hall was "deeply embarrassing" and should be demolished. Nevertheless, he was appointed last year to conduct a feasibility study into how the famed concert hall could be expanded. Queen's Hall chief executive Adrian Harris denied the scheme had been dropped owing to a lack of funds, telling BD that the existing site had proved too constrained to accommodate expansion.
