The land of sandstone and granite is suddenly becoming more colourful. Whether dotted amid traditional architecture in Glasgow's west end, between city centre office blocks or next to the home of professional rugby and Scottish athletics, brightly coloured facades are appearing on developments across the country, giving Scotland a decidedly European feel. They include The Matrix in Cowcaddens, Glasgow, and flats near Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium sporting green, yellow and blue panels. The trend is not without its critics, however. Proposals for a green-clad block of flats in Glasgow's west end have caused an uproar among residents who claim the complex of luxury flats, with brightly coloured facades, will ruin the bohemian setting and architectural landscape of a hugely significant conservation area along the River Kelvin.
