Ambitious plans to link two of the Dean Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art with a grass-covered bridge have been unveiled by the renowned Edinburgh architect Bob Steedman. The scheme would include a grass-covered walkway between the two Edinburgh galleries, linking the acclaimed exhibition spaces to create a single public space. The new design - seen by The Scotsman - would provide an elegant extension to the grass mound and crescent-shaped pools, designed by the American architectural historian Charles Jencks, which can be seen in the grounds of the Modern Art Gallery. At present, the two early 19th-century galleries - one a converted hospital, the other a former institution - are separated by the busy Belford Road.
