Architect dies in Edinburgh

The Scotsman

One of Scotland's most internationally acclaimed architects has died unexpectedly in Edinburgh. Andrew Doolan, 52, who was also a hotelier and a self-made millionaire, gained renown at home and overseas for his regeneration of many areas of the city. He made a particular impact around Bread Street, where he transformed a co-operative store, St Cuthbert's, into the Point Hotel, one of Edinburgh's first designer hotels. Later he added the Point Conference Centre, also part of the former co-op, to the £8 million development.
