Glasgow City Council is to contribute almost £70,000 towards restoring an architectural masterpiece in the heart of the city. The grandeur of St Aloysius' RC Church, a category A-listed building with one of the most finely decorated interiors in the city, has faded over the years. But the council's award of £68,500 will help bring it back to its former glory. The church was built in 1910 to the design of Charles Menart, a Belgian architect, with the marble interior completed in 1927 by Ernst Scaufelberg, an Austrian. About £100,000 has been pledged by the Society of Jesus and the parishioners have raised another £260,000 towards the work. An application has also been made to the Scottish Churches Architectural Heritage Trust.
