A radical blueprint for the future of new housing in the Highlands was outlined at a seminar in Caithness yesterday. It revolves around a shift away from mass-produced, standard kit homes to environmentally-friendly designs using locally sourced materials. A much greater use of timber grown in the Highlands was a common theme for a number of speakers at the all-day seminar in Ackergill Tower. An exhibition of award-winning drawings depicting energy-efficient, green-friendly houses was staged in the hi-tech treehouse in the grounds of the luxury executive retreat, near Wick.
