The Scotsman

It's a common cry heard in boomtown Edinburgh these days. "How did they ever get permission to build that?" is the query raised almost every time some new glass structure or strangely shaped building appears on the city landscape. Those who dare to question are generally condemned as the philistines of modern architecture, whose ideas about new developments would prevent the cosmopolitan Capital from continuing to flourish. Yet, while the march of modernity and progress is unavoidable, the problem that remains is, in the words of estate agents, location, location, location.
