Architect: design team thrown to press

The Evening Times

The Edinburgh architect behind Holyrood yesterday accused the MSPs monitoring the £431m project of having a "superficial understanding" of the detail and of being high-handed. He also accused the parliament's ruling body of throwing the design team to the press as a tactic to deflect blame from itself. Brian Stewart, chief executive of RMJM, also said the management arrangements for Holyrood were so "amorphous" that delays and cost rises had been inevitable. He said the project had such a reputation for "damaging the health" of companies associated with it that firms shied away from bidding for work, and costs had been driven up.
