One of Scotland's top architects has condemned a proposed £30 million city housing development as "sterile and poor" and agreed it should not be built. Giving evidence on behalf of the council at a public inquiry examining plans for the former LRT depot off Leith Walk, award-winning designer Allan Murray said the scheme was not of a high enough standard. Homebuilding giant Wimpey has had three plans for the brownfield site rejected by councillors since 2002 before appealing the decision to the Scottish Executive. The firm wants to build up to 355 flats on the site - including a nine-storey tower - but politicians insist the proposed designs simply aren't good enough.
