Architect tearfully defends his team

The Scotsman

Brian Stewart, the lead designer of the Holyrood project, defended his beleaguered architects yesterday, insisting they were not "alley cats gorging on the cream of taxpayers' money". His astonishing declaration was a belligerent and emotional response to the intense criticism that has been directed at the architects and the other consultants for the huge fees they have earned as a result of cost overruns and delays. Mr Stewart, from the architect firm RMJM, was giving evidence to the Fraser Inquiry and he was clearly upset and angry by the way he has been portrayed by other witnesses.
