Café plan for historic kirk

The Scotsman

Architects working on the Scottish parliament building have submitted plans to transform Edinburgh's Tron Kirk into a café and restaurant. Proposals by RMJM for the historic church would see a large retractable canopy installed to the rear of the 17th-century building to allow the café to spill out into Hunter Square. The existing public toilets would make way for an underground kitchen and a performance space would be created under the new plans for the old kirk. Edinburgh City Council, which owns the Tron, refused to comment on the plans, which have been a closely guarded secret.
