"Can you see it yet?" asks Ian the boatman as he steers us at exuberant speed through the choppy waters of Loch Nevis. "It's right ahead of us. Right on the stem." As the boat slams up and down in the waves, I focus on the shoreline ahead. Nothing. Hang on, there's something emerging from the cliffs. Something that seems almost to be made out of the cliffs. At first it seems military - an old fort, maybe. Then we get closer and it resolves into something else entirely. A house. But no normal house. This is the new Scottish retreat of Sir Cameron Mackintosh, impresario of musicals.
