Architects sent back to school

Scotland on Sunday

For most pupils schools mean scruffy playgrounds, peeling paint and dreary classrooms. But if a supergroup of Scotland's leading architects get their way that could all be about to change. Groundbreaking practices Richard Murphy, Gareth Hoskins and Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop - the award-winning Glasgow architects behind Glasgow's Radisson Hotel - have been commissioned to collaborate on ideas for a raft of designs that will create a revolutionary blueprint for Scottish schools in the 21st century. Initially based around a pilot scheme in Alloa, the architects will be working with Clackmannanshire Council on a radical scheme designed to address the failings of the area's schools.
