Steel dismisses claims of royal dissent over Holyrood
Sir David Steel, the former presiding officer, yesterday dismissed suggestions that the Queen was unhappy with the design of the Scottish parliament complex next to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Sir David, who said he plans to make a robust defence of the project and his role in it when he gives evidence to the Fraser inquiry this week, said he had discussed the Holyrood plans on several occasions with the Queen and she had never criticised the design, only the noise and proximity during the construction phase.
