Top architect is behind flats plan

Edinburgh Evening News

An award-winning city architect is behind plans to demolish a pub on the outskirts of Edinburgh to make way for a block of flats. Richard Murphy Architects has drawn up designs to knock down The Fairmilehead Inn and build 23 new flats up to five storeys high. The site also takes in the Swanston Burn, which developers hope to turn into a small lake. The controversial scheme won planning consent earlier this month despite 19 objections from local residents, the area's city councillor, Elaine Aitken, and Fairmilehead Community Council.
