Architect to explain why friend got Holyrood contract

The Scotsman

The Executive's chief architect, Dr John Gibbons, will appear before the Holyrood inquiry today to explain his role in the appointment of his friend and former neighbour as head of the Holyrood design team. Lord Fraser's investigation into the spiralling cost of the £400 million building will move this week on to the design competition which resulted in Enric Miralles and the Scottish architectural firm, RMJM, being awarded the contract. Dr Gibbons' role has been under scrutiny ever since it emerged that he was a close friend and neighbour of Brian Stewart, RMJM's chief executive.
