Heralded as an icon, the unveiling of a new £40 million pedestrian bridge across the River Clyde has succeeded only in spanning deeply divided architectural waters. The bridge, which will link the financial district of Broomielaw in the north with Tradeston in the south, will be built by the internationally acclaimed architect, Lord Richard Rodgers. His Neptune's Way design beat five other finalists, including one by Sir Norman Foster. The broad bow shape of the proposed bridge will, according the city leader, Charles Gordon, connect the river with its industrial and shipbuilding legacy. Lord Rodgers said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to one of Europe's most vibrant cultural centres."
