Protests blow to goods yard gap site vision

Edinburgh Evening News

A controversial six-storey building on a prominent Haymarket gap site faces the threat of a public inquiry in the wake of a barrage of attacks from heritage watchdogs. Ministers will have the final say on the fate of plans by the EDI Group to transform the old Morrison Street goods yard into an office and retail block with a grand arcade. Heritage groups have attacked the scheme amid fears it will "obliterate" views along Haymarket Terrace to Arthur's Seat and spoil the western entrance to the Capital's World Heritage Site.
