Kingston Bridge is hardly one of the world's great tourist attractions. The Erskine Bridge falls short too, as does the George V Bridge and Bell's Bridge. For a city built upon the Clyde, in every sense, Glasgow lacks an elegant and important bridge to frame its river. So the city council has asked several of the world's leading designers to do what the Brooklyn Bridge did for New York City and the Forth Rail Bridge for Edinburgh: to create an icon, a bridge that links both banks to each other and the city to its past
