'Hideous' shelter wins award for best new building

Judges say islanders will learn to love it. A ferry shelter in a remote island, which has been described as "hideous, impractical and out of keeping with its environment" was named the best new building in Scotland yesterday. The Ł180,000 glass and concrete structure is designed to shelter passengers waiting by the pier in the low-lying and windy Hebridean island of Tiree.
