As Scottish architecture gears up for the much-anticipated announcement next week of the winner of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland's (RIAS) acclaimed award for the nation's best building, it is perhaps significant that two of the judges this year are women.Architecture, like many other professions and industries, is still male-dominated with the latest figures from the RIAS in Edinburgh confirming a membership of 3070 men and just 470 women – that's around 13%. While that ratio is small in comparison to other countries such as China where around 45% of architects are female, the tide is changing, according to some of the profession's most successful and innovative women architects.
