A pair of 17th-century statues which once graced the entrance to the old Scots parliament could be incorporated into the new parliament building at Holyrood, if the supporters of a growing campaign get their way. The figures of Justice and Mercy once stood above the great door of Parliament Hall, linked by a Latin inscription which translates as: “These are the virtues which make kingdoms happy.” After the parliament's demise following the Act of Union in 1707 they were moved a number of times and are now located within Parliament House – the domain of the Court of Session and the Faculty of Advocates – off Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
