Scotland's biggest city, Glasgow, historically known for shipbuilding, steel and textile mills and heavy engineering, has reinvented itself as a major business and retailing center. Shipyards and docklands on the River Clyde are being redeveloped into the $800 million Glasgow Harbour complex of offices, apartments and shops. Also on the Clyde, where salmon are jumping in large numbers for the first time in more than a century, an international financial services district was created in 2001, offering pre-equipped space for corporate call centers.
