It has just been announced that the Radisson SAS Hotel in Glasgow has been shortlisted as finalist in the prestigious European Hotel Design Awards 2003. The hotel, designed by Glasgow architects Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop has made the shortlist of the most significant category within the Architectural Awards as" Best Hotel".
"Competitors have entered from over 21 countries throughout Europe" says Alan Dunlop, making it the most important award for new hotel design in the world. No Scottish hotel has ever been listed in the architecture category before. It's great for us as architects to be recognised in this way but also for our clients: MWB Argyle Street Ltd, for Radisson SAS and for the City of Glasgow, who have supported us all through the design and construction process".
The Awards ceremony will take place in London at a Gala Dinner in the Royal Lancaster hotel on the 30th October. The Judges include the most respected names in the hotel and design industry, including Matt Turner, the editor of Sleeper Magazine; Olga Polizzi of Rocco Forte Hotels and Geraldine McKenna of The Savoy Group.
The Radisson SAS has also been shortlisted for the £25,00 prize in the Royal Incorporation of Architects Award for the best building in Scotland, having won the Architecture Grand Prix at the Scottish Design Awards 2003 and the Special Award for the Best Commercial Building at the recent Irish Architecture Awards.
"Our brief was to design a dynamic and memorable new hotel and push the boundaries of corporate hotel design" says Gordon Murray " I think by any measure we've done that and on an international scale".
