Three Merchiston garages converted into mews houses and a city centre office block have been shortlisted as contenders for Scotland's best new building. The list of five finalists for the Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland Award - the UK's biggest building design competition - was dominated by Capital design firms, with only one Glasgow business in the running. Experts today predicted that a "world-class" ferry shelter on the Island of Tiree designed by Edinburgh-based Sutherland Hussey Architects, in collaboration with a group of artists, was the favourite to win the £25,000 contest.
